Searching the Franklin County jail roster

Access the Franklin County Sheriff’s booking search directly at Franklin County Inmate Information Search. The same portal is also linked from the Inmate Information page on the Sheriff’s website and from the Corrections division page.

1. Open the booking search portal linked above.
2. Enter the person’s last name in the search field. A first name or partial name narrows results.
3. Review the results list. Each record shows the booking date, facility location (Corrections Center, Camp Chase, or Moritz), and current custody status.
4. Select a name to view charges and booking date. Booking photos are public under Ohio law; sealed or juvenile records are not displayed.

What the roster does (and doesn’t) show

Juvenile records are excluded from the Franklin County public booking search. Ohio law prohibits public display of sealed records, and federal detainees held under contract are not listed on the county roster. The booking search covers adults held at Franklin County’s three main jail facilities — the Franklin County Corrections Center, Camp Chase, and the Franklin County Correctional Institution — but does not include individuals transferred to Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) state prisons.

Charges and booking dates are typically public under the Ohio Public Records Act. Bond amounts, when set, appear in the record. The roster does not display medical or mental-health hold details, and it does not show case outcomes or court dates — those require a separate search through the Franklin County Clerk of Courts. The roster reflects the current booking database; a person released earlier the same day may still appear briefly before the record updates.

If someone was just booked tonight

The online booking search may not yet show a very recent arrest. That’s normal and frustrating. Processing a new booking into the public database takes time after intake. Calling (614) 525-3333 gets you a live answer on custody status faster than the web portal will for a same-night booking. Be aware that hold times can run long — the Sheriff’s phone lines are known for congestion, especially overnight.

Bond is set at first appearance in court, which in Ohio typically occurs within 24 to 72 hours of booking. You cannot pay bond tonight because the court hasn’t set it yet — that part is the hard part. Calling the Sheriff confirms the booking and lets you ask when the first appearance is scheduled. A bail bondsman can help once the court sets an amount, but bondsmen have no role before that hearing happens.

Visitation is not available on the night of booking. Franklin County’s corrections facilities begin visitation the following day at scheduled times. If someone isn’t on the Franklin County County roster

• Transferred to state prison: If the person was sentenced or transferred to an Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction facility, search the ODRC Resident Lookup at the state prison inmate locator. County jail rosters do not show ODRC inmates.
• Held at a hospital or on a medical hold: A person booked but transported to a hospital for medical treatment will not appear on the Franklin County roster until they are returned to a jail facility. Call (614) 525-3333 to ask whether the person is in custody but receiving outside medical care.
• Released: The person may have been released on recognizance, posted bond, or been released without charge. A released person’s record may still appear briefly before it clears.
• Held in a neighboring county: If the arrest occurred near a county line or involved a multi-county agency, the person may be booked in Delaware, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, or Madison County. Check those counties’ rosters directly.
• Federal custody: Federal arrests by agencies such as the FBI or DEA result in booking at a federal facility, not the Franklin County jail. Federal detainees do not appear on county rosters.
